The 27th running of the Great Allegany Run (GAR) will take place on Saturday, October 4, and with an elevation drop of more than 500 feet, fast times are all but guaranteed in Mountain Maryland.

Sharp, Login Win USA 40K Race Walk Titles

September 16, 2008 American Track & Field -- Ray Sharp and Solomiya Login won the respective men's and women's national titles Sunday at the 70th annual USA Track & Field 40 Kilometer Race Walk Championships in Ocean Township, NJ.
Sharp (Atlantics Mines, MI.) won his third consecutive U.S. 40 km men's title on a steamy 90-degree, high humidity day by covering the two-kilometer loop course 20 times in 3:58:52. Top placers in the men's division were Connecticut's Theron Kessinger (2nd - 4:03:55), Michigan's Leon Jasionowski (3rd - 4:17:30) and Indiana's Max Walker (4th - 4:29:37).

Doing so was a tad more strenuous though. As promised, the course was a scenic one.

Runners were treated to a glorious, sunny, ideal-racing-weather morning on a fast, flat course that paralleled the Atlantic Ocean, running south on road and boardwalk, then north to finish on the promenade.
