New York, June 4, 2008 — Rookie marathoner Janet Schroeder, 41, of New York City, was the first name selected by New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg in the annual ING New York City Marathon lottery ceremony this morning in Central Park, just across from the finish line of the celebrated five-borough race.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ( Jun. 3 2008 ) More than 400 athletes will be part of a robust Team USA competing at the ITU Age Group World Championship in Vancouver, Canada, on June 7. Team USA earned 39 age group medals at last year’s World Championship in Hamburg, Germany, and the team will try to surpass that number this year.

bangslake.gif Running Away Multisport has acquired the Lake Zurich Triathlon of Lake Zurich, IL. The Lake Zurich Triathlon, -- which left the race scene in 2006 due to road construction and returned to the August race calendar in 2007 -- has ceased operations. Running Away Multisport plans to relocate the event to the Bangs Lake area in Wauconda, IL.

RockyMtnHalf08.jpeg Double the runners from 2007 are expected to run Denver’s Riverfront Park for the fourth annual 2008 Rocky Mountain Half Marathon™ & McDonald’s Women’s 8K. The half marathon will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the women’s 8K will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 8.

Wyoming08.jpg It was a beautiful day for running at the Wyoming Marathon Races in Laramie. Cool temperatures in the 30s at the 6:00 AM start helped propel Jamie Donaldson of Littleton, CO (left, photo by Tania Pacev) to a new course record of 8:17:24 in the Rocky Mountain Double Marathon. Byran Goding was the first male, running 7:42:49.

Competing in near ideal distance running conditions, Simon Wangai of Kenya emerged victorious in the crowded field at the 11th annual Rock 'n' Roll in San Diego.

BoltReebokGrandPrix08.jpg With the meet pushed back an hour due to weather and an additional 45 minute delay half way through, the crowd's passion still was not dampened. The men's 100 meters was run 90 minutes behind the original schedule in front of a still-packed house. Usain Bolt of Jamaica is now the fastest man in the world.

zooma08finishers.JPG Hundreds of women and a smattering of men turned out for the half-marathon and 10K on a bright summer morning and genuinely had fun. The race was the first in a nationwide series of women's race events that focus on women but also welcome men. Finishers earned a silver necklace, and the after-party included wine tastings, box lunches, mini- massages, music, and more!

ALBANY, NY (May 31, 2008) — In winning the 30th edition of the Freihofer's Run for Women for the third consecutive time, Australia's Benita Johnson became only the third woman to accomplish that feat in the event's storied history. (Lynn Jennings, an eight-time winner, and Marla Runyan are the other two).

Dean Karnazes heads to the Gobi Desert in China, as the second race in The North Face Desert Grand Slam, in which he will attempt to complete the world's five major desert foot races in a single calendar year, a total of 755 miles, while raising awareness of and funds to fight the world's safe drinking water shortage through a partnership with The North Face and the Blue Planet Run Foundation.

IAAF Golden League to be broadcast on ESPN

American fans can catch all six 2008 AF Golden League meets on ESPN2, the IAAF has announced. Repeat coverage will also appear on a combination of ESPN Classic and ESPN2. In addition to the ESPN coverage, the action also will be webcast on the Sportnet family of websites. The first race kicks off this Sunday, June 1 in Berlin.

This annual event memorializes the former Northwestern University men's basketball coach and Vice President of Community Affairs at Aon who was murdered in 1999 in an act of racism and violence.
