Let’s Get It Started
GTCgroup.jpgThe Greenville Track Club is one of the oldest and largest running clubs in the Southeast, and our hometown of Greenville, SC has a passionate running community. Naturally, were very interested when we heard about the 100x5K Relay WR set by the Florida Striders and subsequently smashed by the Charlotte Running Club. Were we going to let a WR opportunity slip away? Of course not - we decided to go for it! We called our event the “100 in 30” Challenge which stood for 100 consecutive 5K runs in 30 hours, or less.

Your Personal Mark …In Post Meridian …The PERFECT MILE.

PMnunn.jpgFriday, May 20th at 6:10pm signaled the start of the first heat of the inaugural PM in the Park 1-Mile downhill dash, honoring the month that the legendary Roger Bannister first broke the elusive 4-minute mile.

Organized by Off’n Running Sports in Greensboro, North Carolina and sponsored by Adidas, the event featured an approximately 60-foot elevation drop over a point-to-point course in Greensboro’s Country Park. The drop was plenty to ensure fast times but still gradual enough to protect runners’ knees.

Under perfect running conditions, about 70 degrees as the sun was setting, ten heats with their own unique names (i.e. “The Chasers”, “The Mini-Milers”, “Ten Fast Dudes”) cruised the course, set exactly ten minutes apart from one another. Each heat, seeded by predicted finish times, consisted of roughly ten runners. Slower heats took off first, with the final heat termed, “The Main Event.”.

"Talaya Owens is on the university's women's track team, which decided at the last minute to attend a key track meet in Des Moines last weekend.

It was a tough call: Eleven of the team's athletes were displaced. The team didn't do quite as well as they'd hoped — they were tired, stressed out and their flight was so late they barely made the meet. But the thousands gathered cheered them like they were the home team.

In the same 733 U.S. half-marathons for 2009 vs. 2010, there was a 17.24% finisher increase (975,409 vs. 1,143,551).

Men's champion produces fastest marathon ever; Davila women's runner-up and Hall fastest American all-time under near perfect racing conditions on historic point-to-point, downhill course

By Jim Gerweck, Running USA wire

BOSTON - The 115th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday turned out to be one of the record books - it just depends on which ones you want to rewrite.

Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai, 29, ran the fastest marathon in history - 2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds - a time 57-seconds faster than the world record set by Haile Gebrselassie at Berlin in 2008 and an almost incomprehensible three minutes better than Robert Kiprono Cheryuoit's course record of 2:05:52, which was deemed virtually untouchable when he set it last year.

Hollman,_Lena.jpg__.jpgOnce upon a time I was a marathon runner. It was back in the 1980s, when I was in my 30s and could shoot for a PR in several of the marathons that I entered. I would run up to 70 miles per week, and my running was my life. But as I grew older, it became increasingly difficult to keep up with my marathon training, both in terms of quantity and quality. I decided to give up marathons in my early 40s, after running them twice a year or more for several years. Instead I concentrated on shorter races, primarily 5Ks. And I could actually have a life outside of work and running!
