Steve Harris Wins Zydeco 5K

GULF SHORES, AL — Steve Harris, 36, of Pensacola, FL, was the overall winner April 15 of the Zydeco Crawfish 5K, finishing in 18:19. Scott Roberts, 39, of Gulf Breeze, FL, was runner-up in 19:16, followed by Mark Brill, 15, of Indian Mound, TN, in 19:47.

Connelly, Gibson Win Reston Marathon

RESTON, VA — Ben Connelly and Kacey Gibson were the winners of the April 9 Reston Marathon. Connelly was overall winner in 2:51:58, Gibson was the first female in 3:16:52.

Second and third males were Robert Young in 3:01:12 and Erick Kuhlmann in 3:03:08. Female second and third finishers were Alexandria Peterson in 3:23:24 and Pauline Campbell in 3:23:47.

SPRINGDALE, AR — Jon Bitler of Fayetteville won the Hogeye Marathon in 3:04:28.33 on April 8. Michael Zadnik of Orlando, FL, was second in 3:12:57.19 and Charles Konzelman of Fort Smith was third in 3:13:23.48.

Emily King of Bentonville was women’s champion in 3:12:38.6. Katie Thompson of Springdale was second in 3:28:47.89, followed by Carrie Taylor of Sherwood in 3:47:53.05.

The middle-of-the-day Chamber of Commerce event (11:30-1:30) has interesting rules, including:

— Must wear business attire (business suit or dress with a jacket).

— Must wear running shoes.

— Must carry your heels.

KANSAS CITY, MO -– The Kansas City Marathon announced that Garmin International Inc. will serve as the race’s new title sponsor. The race, scheduled for October 21, is Kansas City’s largest annual running event and will be branded “The Kansas City Marathon presented by Garmin” – and will feature significant integration of the Garmin brand, its products and its inspirational Beat Yesterday campaign in all aspects of the event.

Easter morning race honors early running icon who recently passed away.

ALBANY, GA — If you ran in the Albany, Georgia area in the 1970s and 80s, you will remember Ray Spindler, known to his running buddies as Daddy Rabbit. Ray was one of the earliest road race runners in the Albany area and helped to shape our running community with his never-ending support of the races, mentoring the younger runners and entertaining everyone at the post-race activities.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Wade Foster was the overall winner of the Charlottesville Marathon on Saturday, completing the 26.2 miles in 2:48:08. Second was Christopher Rom in 2:57:05. Korey Blodgett was third in 2:59:30.

Winning the female division was Lacey Serletti in 3:24:45. Robin Wrightson was second in 3:28:37, followed by Leah Jennings in 3:34:30.

photo by David Samuel 002.JPGBIG FORK, AR — Justin Walker of Tulsa, OK, was the winner of the Athens-Big Fork Trail Marathon on Saturday, April 1, at Quachitea National Forest, finishing the rugged course in 4:50:50. Marc Gill and Chris Ho, both of North Little Rock, were second and third. Aaron Dickens of Van Buren was fourth in 5:21:56 and John Haddock of Springdale was fifth in 5:25:50.
