World Marathon Record Smashed by Kenyan

BERLIN — Eliud Kipchoge ran an incredible marathon on Sunday, breaking the world record by 78 seconds at the Berlin Marathon.

He finished in 2:01:39.

So complete was his victory that he finished nearly five minutes ahead of the second-place finisher, Amos Kipruto, who ran 2:06:23. Former world record holder Wilson Kipsang was third in 2:06:48.

It was a strong day for Kenya as the women’s winner was Gladys Cherono, who finished in a course record 2:18:11. Ethiopian runners Rutia Aga and Tirunesh Dibaba finished second and third.
