Peter Kemboi and Leah Thorvilson are top finishers in 2010 St. Jude Memphis Marathon

16,500 runners and walkers participated in four races; $2.8 million raised for St. Jude


MEMPHIS, TENN. (December 4, 2010) – Peter Kemobi of Hebron, Ky. and Leah Thorvilson of Little Rock, Ark. were the top male and female finishers, respectively, in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon on Dec. 4. Kemboi, 36, finished the 26.2 mile course with a time of 2:26:29 while Thorvilson finished in stjude.jpg2:40:20. Proceeds from all races benefited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers.
Other winners from race day included Cordova resident and Olympian Joshua McAdams as the top half marathon male finisher with time of 1:08:01. Memphian Rachel Best finished the half marathon with a time of 1:28:36.
Sixteen-thousand five hundred runners and walkers participated in the sold out St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend races included a marathon, half marathon, the Memphis Grizzlies House 5K and the St. Jude Memphis Family Race and Kids Marathon.
Of the total race participants, more than 4,000 were St. Jude Heroes – participants who raised funds for St. Jude by securing donations from family, friends and co-workers. Through the St. Jude Heroes program and event registration, race weekend raised $2.8 million for the hospital.
The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend is presented by Juice Plus+® and is a collaborative effort between St. Jude and the Memphis Runners Track Club. The 2010 races will be held Saturday, December 3. For more information, visit
