blues.jpgJACKSON, MS — The Jan. 27 Mississippi Blues Marathon will be the 2018 RRCA Southern Region Marathon Championship.

Events will include the marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon, and marathon relay. Live music will be featured from start to finish, including along the race course.

Continental Tire the Americas has signed on as Presenting Sponsor of the eleventh annual event. Continental broke ground in 2016 just outside of Jackson on its most technologically advanced tire manufacturing facility in North America and will begin production in 2019.

Since the inaugural race in 2008, the race has showcased Jackson and the rich Blues music history of the state. A portion of the proceeds goes to support the Mississippi Blue Commission’s Musician’s Benevolent Fund.

The race has attracted runners from all 50 states and more than 15 countries.

An expo will be held at the downtown Marriott on Thursday afternoon and Friday prior to the Saturday races. Expo visitors will also enjoy live Blues music from nationally and internationally renowned Blues artists.

The event also has partnered with the Big Beach Marathon at Gulf Shores, Alabama, for a double race weekend called “Blues2Beach.” Run a Blues race on Saturday, then head south to Gulf Shores for the Sunday ace. Each event offers a marathon and a half marathon. Runners who complete any combination of the two will receive a Back2Back Challenge finisher’s award. Complete both marathons and you are eligible for the Marathon Maniacs’ Iridium level.

If you want to relax and recover between races, a Blues Bus round trip is available Saturday afternoon for $50. The bus returns to Jackson on Sunday afternoon.
