Mississippi Blues Marathon One-of-a-Kind Adventure

msblueslogo-nodate-2.pngJACKSON, MS — The 11th Annual Mississippi Blues Marathon on Jan. 27 is a one-of-a-kind adventure in Mississippi’s capital city. Live blues music will be featured before, after, and throughout the course.

Events include the marathon, half marathon, a “quarter note” race of 6.5 miles, and a 5K, plus a marathon relay.

The marathon has been selected for the 2018 RRCA Southern Region Marathon Championship. The RRCA Southern Region includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. The marathon is also a Boston Marathon qualifier.

Finisher medals will be guitar featured in keeping with the blues music from musicians.The Mississippi Blues Marathon has had runners from all 50 states and more than 15 foreign countries.

An expo will be held at the downtown Marriott on Thursday afternoon and Friday prior to the Saturday, Jan. 27, races.

Race Director John Noblin said the course will include some freshly paved streets in Jackson and will include “a tour of the best of Jackson, running along the Old Capitol Museum, the New Capitol, Jackson State University, Belhaven University, Millsaps College, the Eudora Welty House, and the LeFleur Museum District." The course also runs past two new attractions — the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and the Mississippi History Museum.

There will also be a “Back2Back Challenge” with the Big Beach Marathon & Half Marathon the next day (Jan. 28) at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Back2Back participants will run the Blues on Saturday, January 27, then head south to Gulf Shores for the Big Beach Marathon on Sunday, January 28, starting and finishing at the world famous Hangout. Each event offers both marathon and half marathon distances so runners who complete any combination of the two will receive a Back2Back Challenge finisher’s award. Additionally, runners who complete the marathon at both events are instantly eligible for Marathon Maniacs’ Iridium level.
