Korir, Pease Win Mercedes Marathon at Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Dominic Korir, 23, of Grand Prairie, TX, won Sunday’s Mercedes Marathon in 2:20:35. Blair Teal, 30, of Charlotte, NC, was second in 2:21:07, followed by Stanley Boen, 38, also of Grand Prairie. Bryan Morseman, 31, of Bath, NY, was fourth in 2:27:58 and Geoffrey Tum, 31, of Coon Rapids, MN, was fifth in 2:42:41.

Sarah Pease, 29, of Bloomington, IN, was the female champion in 2:41:45. Shawanna White, 37, of Columbia, SC, was second in 2:56:40, followed by Trisha Nelson, 25, of South Bend, IN, in 2:58:14; Dani Steinbacher, 31, of Ann Arbor, MI, in 3:02:53, and Sarah Overpack, 33, of Indianapolis, IN, in 3:04:18.

In the half marathon, Kenyan Panuel Mungo, 23, of Elkton, MD, won in 1:04:23. Luis Orta, 28, of Broomfield, CO, was second in 1:06:46, followed by Christian Thompson, 28, of Chattanooga, TN, in 1:08:25.

Female half marathon winner was Gladys Yator, 24, of Lansing, MI, in 1:14:21. Second was Joan Aiyabei, 37, also of Lansing, in 1:15:26. Third went to Grace Kahura, 23, of Boulder, CO, in 1:16:39. First American female finisher was Emily Bell, 35, of Signal Mountain, TN, in 1:20:30.
