Katie McGregor, Meghan Armstrong to Compete at USA Women's 10k Championship in Boston Oct. 12

teamusamn_logo_19.gifMinneapolis/St. Paul - Oct. 9, 2009 - Team USA Minnesota's Katie McGregor and Meghan Armstrong will be among the elite field at the USA Women's 10k Championship on Oct. 12. The championship is being held for the 15th time in conjunction with the Tufts Health Plan 10k for Women in Boston. The event has over 6,000 participants and is the largest women-only 10k in the nation. The Columbus Day race starts at noon.

McGregor is a three-time champion at the 10k distance - once in the 10,000 on the track and twice at the USA Women's 10k road championship, and is a frequent competitor at Tufts. She has a best in the 10,000 meters of 31:21. She also holds the Minnesota state record for 10k on the roads of 32:17. Most recently, McGregor won the Cow Harbor 10k on Sept. 26 in a time of 33:12. Prior to that she was fifth at the USA 5k Championships in 15:50 on Sept. 20. In August, she was a member of the U.S. team in the 10,000m that competed at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Berlin.

Armstrong has a best in the 10,000m of 33:26, a mark she set last April. This will be her second appearance at Tufts. Most recently, Armstrong won the TC 5k in 16:45 during Twin Cities Marathon weekend on Oct. 3. She is a 2008 graduate of the University of Iowa where she was the Big 10 10,000-meter champion and finished sixth in the 10,000 at NCAA's her senior year. Since joining Team USA Minnesota last year, she has raced distances from the mile up through the half marathon.
