Kamiri, Chibet Win Governor’s Cup Half Marathon

COLUMBIA, SC — Francis Kamiri of Homewood, AL, raced home the winner of the Governor’s Cup Half Marathon on May 19, finishing in 1:05:28. Cyrus Korir (1:07:42) and Kipkoech Kirui (1:07:50), both of Chapel Hill, NC, were second and third.

Zipporah Chibet, of Chapel Hill, was female winner in 1:19:19, followed by Caren Maiyo in 1:19:22 and Purity Munene of Columbia in 1:19:46.

Eric Ashton, of Columbia, was the male masters winner in 1:14:25, followed by Mitch Mussetter (1:24:23) of Aiken and James Vavra (1:26:30) of Daniel Isle, SC. Top 3 females were Heather Hunt (1:28) of Sumter, Erin Miller (1:29:24) of Columbia, and Andee Swann (1:37:25) of Morristown, TN.

Larry Jordan of Sandy Run, SC, was the winning grandmaster in 1:32:37, followed by Larry Bates (1:43:58) of Columbia and Doug Jewel (1:45:35) of Chapin. Alsena Edwards of Columbia was the winning female grandmaster in 1:58:59, followed by Leah Taylor (2:07:54) of Elgin, SC, and Cynthia Swift (2:08:09) of Fort Belvoir, VA.
