VIRGINIA BEACH, March 18 -- More than 7,000 runners and walkers crossed the finish line of the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon, Shamrock Marathon Relay, and Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon. After 2017’s mix of rain, snow, and heavy winds, this year’s participants were treated to fair skies throughout the weekend at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Justin King of Indian Trail, North Carolina, won the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon with a finish time of 2:33:40. “The course is great – flat, smooth, nice, and easy,” said King, who finished his 11th marathon at Shamrock this morning. “My father-in-law is from Virginia Beach, so I had to come run this one.”

The winner of the marathon on the women’s side was Tami Ritchie of Clermont, Florida. She broke the tape in 3:02:28.

For the Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon, Gregory Mariano of Alexandria, Virginia, placed first in 1:08:56. Nicole Dimercurio won the women’s division with a finish time of 1:13:15. It was the Blowing Rock, North Carolina resident’s first time running the Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon, and she plans to return in the future.

“I happened to feel really good today and pushed the pace a bit. It was windier than I am used to – you get some headwinds, but you also get some great tailwinds,” said Dimercurio. “I’ve had nothing but a great experience here. Every volunteer was more helpful than the last. Everyone was just really nice.”

After crossing the finish line, participants headed to a post-race party on the beach complete with Yuengling beer, Murphy’s Irish stew, and live music.

“This was the 46th annual Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend, and it was our best yet. From our volunteers and spectators to our city agencies and community, Virginia Beach really showed off this weekend,” said Jerry Frostick, co-owner of J&A Racing. “The finish line is such an inspiring place to be since we get to celebrate runners and walkers of all ages and abilities as they accomplish their goals.”

Almost 20,000 participants enjoyed the 2018 Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend, which also included three events on Saturday, March 17: the TowneBank Shamrock 8K, Operation Smile Shamrock Final Mile, and Leprechaun Dash. For more information and complete results, visit
