For the long awaited, first Jeff Galloway Race Weekend Dec. 12-14 in Atlanta, featuring the JG 13.1 Half Marathon and Barb’s 5K, a fun and festive holiday component will be the Race’s Holiday Costume Contest.

In Jeff Galloway tradition, a runner and celebrity will be on the judge panel for this part of the race weekend.

Dr. Elmo is the original artist of the song "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer," which has sold over 11 million copies. He has appeared on Good Morning America and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Dr. Elmo will be one of the judges for the best, most fun and creative race costumes with a Holiday theme. A world-class runner in his age group, Dr. Elmo has won gold in Brazil in the World Masters Games (400 relay) and 2 golds in the Wine Country Senior Games (800m and 1600m) this past year. – Not your “normal Grandpa”!

All participants are encouraged to dress up and show the spirit of “Happy Holidays” – no matter if their celebration consists of Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanza. The team at Jeff Galloway is looking forward to many elves, St. Nicks, angels, nutcrackers, reindeers, grinches and other favorite Holiday Characters.

To participate in the fun costume contest, come to the expo on Saturday, Dec. 13, in your favorite costume.

Costume Contest Rules: Sign in at 3 pm. The winners will be announced at 4 pm.

Must be able to run 13.1 miles in full costume crossing the finish line.

Winners will receive:

1st place $500

2nd place $300

3rd place $150

The Jeff Galloway 13.1 Half Marathon is named for Olympic runner Jeff Galloway, author, public speaker and “America’s Running Coach” who was recently named by USA Running as the most recognized person in the sport of running. The race is hosted by Phidippides, the oldest specialty running store in the country with two Atlanta locations. Named for Barbara Galloway, Jeff Galloway’s wife of 38 years and also an avid runner, the 5K race has been added to the official race weekend agenda.
