Galen Rupp wins USATF Athlete of the Week

Galen Rupp (Portland, Oregon) won the Prague Marathon and became the second-fastest U.S. man ever in the event to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.

Rupp, the bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympic Games, ran 2:06:07 to win by almost a minute over Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia, and he sliced more than three minutes off his previous lifetime best of 2:09:20, set in winning Chicago last year. His time ranks him behind only American record-holder Khalid Khannouchi, who ran 2:05:38 in 2002, on the U.S. all-time list. Rupp has never placed lower than third in any of the five marathons he has finished.

Other notable performances:

Aliphine Tuliamuk — Two-time defending USATF Running Circuit champion Tuliamuk won the USATF Half Marathon Championships after leading from the start, crossing the line in 1:10:04.

Chris Derrick — Derrick was the men’s winner at the USATF Half Marathon Championships, edging out Parker Stinson by one second in 62:37.
Maria Michta-Coffey — Michta-Coffey was the top U.S. performer at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships, placing 29th in the women’s 20K in 1:33:05.

Gabby Thomas — The Harvard senior won the 100m, 200m and long jump at the Ivy League Championships, and also ran on the winning 4x100m relay and anchored the 4x400m to victory with a stirring 49.44 leg.

DeAnna Price — Price set a lifetime best of 75.96m/249-2 to win the hammer at the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana, moving to No. 2 on the all-time U.S. list.

Noah Lyles — Lyles zipped to a PR 19.83 to win the 200m at the Doha Diamond League meet, his third straight DL win in the past year.
Tamari Davis — Davis set a U.S. age-15 record in the 200m with her 22.48 at the Florida high school championships, putting her No. 2 on the world all-time youth list.
