Barresi, Neuberger are Donna Marathon Champions
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL — In unseasonably warm conditions, Matthew Barresi, 34, of Palmyra, VA, was victorious at the 10th anniversary of the Donna Marathon on Sunday, finishing in 2:30:23. Meaghan Neuberger, 29, of Fernandina Beach, FL, was the female winner in 3:06:53. The marathon (26.2 with Donna) was founded in 2008 by Jacksonville TV personality Donna Deegan, a three-time breast cancer survivor.
More than 10,000 runners participated in weekend events which raise funds to fight breast cancer.
Second and third male finishers in the marathon were Justin Jacobs in 2:33:07 and Ryan Aponte in 2:56:31, both from Jacksonville. Penny Primus of Tampa was second female in 3:13:15, followed by Lydia Hochstein of Jacksonville in 3:15:35.
In the half marathon, Jacksonville runners Terrance Sessoms (1:18:22) and Julie Stackhouse (1:19:02) were the male and female champions. Second male was Sean McCormack of Bel Air, MD, in 1:18:49, while Andy Purdy of Sanford, FL, was third in 1:19:37. Jessica Smith of San Francisco was second female in 1:27:17 followed by Joan Benoit Samuelson in 1:29:44.
