Arlington, VA – Organized running clubs have been the driving force behind the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) since 1958. As the running community continues to grow and evolve, the delivery of organized running has changed over the years. While organized running clubs continue to represent the majority of RRCA members, fundraising events, and event management companies continue to be a growing membership segment of the RRCA.

The RRCA offers a variety of services designed to support and promote the efforts of local running organizations including clubs, events, and event management companies. The cornerstone of the RRCA’s proven suite of services is an affordable insurance program along with an IRS nonprofit group exemption benefit for qualifying nonprofit organizations. The RRCA’s insurance program meets USA Track & Field’s event sanctioning requirements, including naming USA Track & Field as a permanent additional insured for all events.

“Insurance coverage is one of the major benefits of RRCA membership,” explains Jean Knaack, RRCA Executive Director. “Insuring activities should be a top priority for clubs and events and never an afterthought in the planning process. While running is generally a safe activity, unfortunate things happen from time-to-time, and there are too many uninsured groups currently operating today, putting volunteers and participants at risk. Insurance coverage is an important necessity for any legitimate running organization.”

If a claim arises from a club or event activity, defending the claim can generate extraordinary legal expenses. Obtaining general liability insurance through RRCA membership covers the cost of litigation and settlement of claims.

The RRCA is accepting membership applications for the 2016 term. Membership with the RRCA includes general liability insurance, directors and officers insurance for nonprofit organizations, and additional options including volunteer medical personnel coverage, business, and operations policies including dishonesty bonds. Detailed information about insurance options and coverage can be found at www.rrca.org/services/insurance/.
