KRTN-logo-403-width-for-Facebook-1-275x212.jpgARLINGTON, Virginia – The Road Runners Club of America’s Kids Run the Nation youth running program is pleased to announce its partnership with the Healthy Kids Running Series, a five-week series of kids’ running races that aims to provide a positive, educational, and fun experience in the world of running. Through this partnership, Kids Run the Nation and the Healthy Kids Running Series will promote each other’s efforts at growing the sport of running among youth throughout the U.S.

The official youth running program of the RRCA, Kids Run the Nation has offered tools and resources for organizing youth running programs in schools, before- and after-school programs, community centers, homeless shelters, and other local venues since its introduction in 1986. In 2007, the RRCA developed the Kids Run the Nation Fund to assist these organizations in implementing and enhancing new or currently established programs. The Healthy Kids Running Series was founded in 2009 to combat the increasing rates of child obesity in America, and was designed to motivate kids to live a healthy and active lifestyle while providing a fun environment to improve their self-esteem. Healthy Kids Running Series offers age-appropriate races every spring and fall for boys and girls, Pre-K through Middle School, nationwide. The Fall 2017 season will feature 165 locations.

“When you have two great organizations promoting youth running it just makes sense to work together,” says Jeff Long, Healthy Kids Running Series President and Founder. “Working with Kids Run the Nation will allow our Community Coordinators to extend their presence in youth running throughout the year.”

“The Kids Run the Nation curriculum and the Healthy Kids Running Series races really go hand-in-hand at encouraging kids to run as part of a healthy lifestyle,” says Erica Gminski, RRCA Youth Programs Coordinator. “Offering our youth running program leaders the opportunity to add a series of races to their programs will help to engage the community at large and instill a love of running in even more kids across the country.”
