Seven races will be offered again for 2019 - a full USATF-certified Marathon (26.2 miles) that will allow runners to qualify for the Boston Marathon, a Half Marathon (13.1 miles), a 2-person to 4-person Marathon Team Relay event, a traditional 10K and 5K race, along with a virtual race and challenge event.

"I'm pleased and excited to step up and become the race director for this sixth year of the race", Melton said. "I've been deeply involved in the races each year since inception by providing the timing and scoring. Becoming race director will allow me to guide the race into becoming the true destination event we have been building here in Florida. The race organization has grown the races from nothing five years ago into the gems they are today, and I can only hope to add to the races' luster in the coming year.
Frank Fender, past race director and founder of the Marathon of the Treasure Coast, said "Mike Melton is a great choice to continue building this amazing event. He is an excellent leader and has such deep understanding of the vision for the race and our endurance community. He has been working on our team since the founding of the TC Marathon, so I am excited to see how he grows the race and I look forward to supporting him."

As is the case each year, the marathon is an enormous undertaking involving dozens of agencies, groups, and municipalities, as well as hundreds of volunteers. Melton is looking for the community to once again step up participation in the event. "I'll be holding marathon Team meetings beginning in mid-June, to gather the volunteers and key staff members together to begin the planning process that ensures race weekend comes off smoothly", Melton said. "If you want to get involved, please contact me or any Marathon team member - we would love to add new ideas and new energy into the mix!"

Melton, a 32-year resident of Jensen Beach, has a strong and deep connection to the Treasure Coast Running community. He co-founded the local running club 30 years ago and was club vice president for 21 consecutive years. Melton is now serving as the current President of Treasure Coast Running.

Through MCM Timing and Results LLC, the race timing company he owns, Melton has been involved in countless races held each year on the Treasure Coast, throughout the state, and across the country. Along with his son Dan and race staff, Melton provides timing and scoring for more than 80 races per year.

Melton has been race director for more than 500 races in the past 30 years, and he's also run in, as a runner, more than 500 races in a running career that spans nearly 50 years. He's finished more than 40 marathons, including three Boston Marathons, and has run races from 1 mile to 203 miles in length. He's also Race Director of the Ancient Oaks 100-Mile Endurance Run held each December in Titusville, Florida.
