CHARLOTTE, NC — Harriette Thompson, oldest female to complete a marathon, has died at age 94.

The former classical pianist ran the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego, California, at age 92 in 7:24:36 to set the world record for runners over age 90. She ran her first marathon at age 76.

When she finished that marathon, she said the reaction at the finish was “like Lindbergh coming in after his flight."

In June, she ran the half marathon in San Diego, setting another oldest woman record of 3:42:56.
