hughes.jpg The Running Journal Grand Prix completed its 31st season on Memorial Day at the Cotton Row 10K in Huntsville, AL. The 10-race series began in early September in Anderson, SC, for the Midnight Flight 10K, the only nighttime race of the series. A couple of weeks later, GP runners tackled the hills of Asheville, NC, at a new race on the series, the Citizen-Times Half-marathon.

KINGSPORT – With a return to more seasonal weather in the Tri-Cities, perhaps the collective men’s and women’s records breathed an inanimate sigh of relief after the annual Crazy 8s road race -- the world’s fastest 8K tilt – came to a close late Saturday inside J. Fred Johnson Stadium.

Remember you heard it here first: RUNNING CAUSES CANCER. You don’t believe me? I can prove it. Just ask my doctor. He recently cut a basal cell carcinoma off my head, and it wasn’t the first one -- there was the one on my arm, the one on my back, the one on my leg. How does that connect to running causing it? Probably indirectly, but really it can be connected due to exposure to sunlight.

Abdirahman three-peats as USA 10K champion; more than 50,000 timed finishers at annual 4th of July 10K

ATLANTA - (July 4, 2009) - The professional fields at the AJC Peachtree Road Race did not disappoint as Kenyans Sammy Kitwara and Lineth Chepkurui both took home victories at the 40th running of the 4th of July 10K event on Saturday with finish times of 27:22 and 31:31, respectively. In addition to taking home the top prize at Peachtree, both Kitwara and Chepkurui were eligible for the Professional Road Racing Organization's (PRRO) championship bonus and will split the $35,000 prize bringing each of their total Peachtree earnings to $32,500.

Tadesa Tola did it in Manhatten. Now he wants to do it again in Kingsport. Tola, the 21-year old Ethiopian took down the Central Park course record in impressive style earlier this year, running 27:48 at the Healthy Kidney 10K. He now has his eyes set on the 8K world record at the Indian Path Medical Center & SunTrust Bank Crazy 8s 8K Run in Kingsport on July 11th.

I often hear runners talking about mental toughness and the need to become more mentally tough. Coaches often stress mental toughness and how their athletes need to become more mentally tough. However, very few people can actually define what mental toughness is and very few coaches can tell their athletes just how they can improve their mental toughness.

Biggest party in marathoning set for February 28, 2010

NEW ORLEANS, La. - (June 9, 2009) - The Competitor Group and the New Orleans Track Club have announced a multi-year licensing agreement for the Mardi Gras Marathon. The Rock 'n' Roll Series will add the Mardi Gras Marathon to its schedule of races, hosting the Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Marathon & ½ Marathon in New Orleans on Sunday, February 28, 2010.
