LOUISVILLE, KY — Jeremy Johnson of Austin, Indiana, was the overall winner April 28 of the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon in 2:21:19. Michael Deren of Louisville was second in 2:24:52, followed byt Tyler Cannon of New Orleans in 2:29. Fourth was Ernest Koech of Louisville in 2:31 while Daniel Lemelman of Brooklyn was fifth in 2:40:22.

Top American pros to compete for event record prize purse totaling $85,000 in the City of Champions

PITTSBURGH – An impressive field of almost 100 American distance runners are set to race at the 2018 USATF Half Marathon Championships on Sunday morning, May 6. The national title will be held in conjunction with the 10th DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events.

In the men’s division, U.S. Olympian and defending USATF Running Circuit Champion Leonard Korir headlines one of the largest invited fields in recent history. Also toeing the start line will be Samuel Kosgei, who placed second at the 2017 Army 10 Miler, and Matt Llano, who finished second at the 2015 USATF Marathon Championships. Rounding out the top of the men’s field is recent addition Chris Derrick, a three-time USA Cross Country Champion.

RRCA-Winners-2018.jpgMUSCLE SHOALS, AL — Josh Whitehead of Madison, AL, raced home in 15:41.4 on April 28 to claim the Southern Region RRCA 5K championship. Female champion was Laura Bennett of Moulton, AL, in 19:48.6.

Second and third overall men were Justin Watson of Florence in 15:57.2 and Blake Yarbrough of Town Creek in 17:46.6.

Second and third females were Courtney Lancaster-Bunt of Killen, AL, in 23:13.2 and Kristi Hooper of Cullman in 23:18.2.

Jenny Simpson won her sixth title at the Drake Relays. This time, Jenny Simpson moved up to the two mile distance and broke the American record, with a fine 9:16.78! Prior to the race, Jenny told the Drake Relays media team that she knw it would be tough, as she was doubling her race distance, but she liked the challenge.

ROCKY MOUNT, NC -- Now in its fifth year, the Nash UNC Health Care Rocket Mile returns to the streets of Downtown Rocky Mount on Sunday, May 6th at 2pm as the Road Runners Club of America National Championship, and the United States Track and Field - North Carolina State Championship. Boasting $1550 in prize money in the Mens and Womens Competitive races, and separate kids races that highlight endurance clubs from Benvenue, Englewood, Nashville, Red Oak, Spring Hope, and Swift Creek, the event has become an annual for celebration for those from five to eighty five.

Sarah Sellers finished second at the Boston Marathon as a virtual unknown.

She’s a nurse in Tucson, Arizona who ran at Weber State University in her hometown of Ogden, Utah until a foot injury sidelined her from being a top national distance runner.

Concert Series Headliner Hunter Hayes joined by additional top music talent

NASHVILLE, TN -- On Saturday, April 28 the 19th running of the St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll® Nashville Marathon & ½ Marathon will bring a renewed focus of Bringing Fun to the Run™ with more music than ever before. Music makes up the heart and “sole” of this event as runners enjoy a variety of music along the race course from alternative, classic and punk rock to blues and of course, country. Music and entertainment set the tempo for this running party, where runners and spectators alike will be “dancin’ in the streets” to these mini-concerts.

In addition to the previously announced headline concert performed by Atlantic Records/Warner Music Nashville artist, Hunter Hayes, the annual St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll® Nashville Marathon & ½ Marathon will showcase some of ‘Music City’s’ talent all event long.

DES MOINES, Iowa – A breezy, mostly sunny evening in Des Moines led to furious finishes at the USATF 1 Mile Road Championships Tuesday evening, as Riley Masters and Emily Lipari outlasted strong fields to claim victory, the first USATF Running Circuit title for either athlete.

The USATF 1 Mile Road Championships, hosted by the Grand Blue Mile, are the third stop on the 2018 USATF Running Circuit. Next up on the circuit, the USATF Half Marathon Championships take place in Pittsburgh on May 6.

INDIANAPOLIS -- USA Track & Field (USATF) will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1968 U.S. Olympic Track & Field team with its 1968-2018: Celebrating Athletic Achievement and Courage campaign.

Throughout the remainder of the year, USATF will honor the members of what is largely considered the greatest track & field team in history, including Tommie Smith, John Carlos, Wyomia Tyus, Madeline Manning Mims, Randy Matson and more. Athlete appearances at select high-profile events will combine with social media promotion, storytelling and videography. The year will culminate in the Night of Legends celebration during the USATF Annual Meeting this December in Columbus, Ohio, a special reunion of 1968 team members and current USATF stars.
