CHICAGO – The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced that several international running stars are joining the 41st annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon elite athlete competition in October. Past champions Abel Kirui (KEN) and Dickson Chumba (KEN) lead the charge on the men’s side, and 2017 runner-up Brigid Kosgei (KEN) and two-time podium finisher Birhane Dibaba (ETH) stand out among the women. They will join previously announced global sensations Mo Farah (GBR), Yuki Kawauchi (JPN) and Suguru Osako (JPN).
American Galen Rupp won last year’s race in 2:09:30.

Lopez Lomong (Lake Oswego, Oregon) won the Sir Walter Miler elite mile race in Raleigh, North Carolina, finishing the four-lap race in 3.53:86.

The 33-year-old Bowerman Track Club athlete ran his fastest mile in five years while also setting a new meet record. His time was .01 seconds from beating the record for the fastest mile ever recorded in the state of North Carolina. His mark is currently the seventh fastest time in the world this year.

The race started out with Sara Vaughn going to the front quickly. Over the first lap, she tucked in as the sole woman to go with the pacer (Jamie Morrissey). Over the next two laps, the rest of the field caught up to the leading pair, paving the way for Charlene Lipsey to make a move down the final straightaway, for not only the win, but her first time under 4:30.

Meb Photo with Medals - High Resolution.jpgBIRMINGHAM, AL – The National Center for Sports Safety announced that 2004 Athens Olympics silver medalist, 2009 New York City Marathon champion, and 2014 Boston Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi will be running in the Birmingham Wine 10K on March 2, 2019. Keflezighi will be running in the race and pacing a group of race participants. He will also be attending the post-race festivities to meet race participants and distribute awards.

Age and experience are the key factors in predicting running success, new research at the University of St Andrews has found.

Membership of a running club, as well as having run the same race several times, were also strong indicators of whether someone would be able to accurately predict their finishing time - giving older runners the advantage over their youthful counterparts.

This unique format, offered to women only, will turn the streets of Durham into a show of force as the fitness movement continues to expand because of their involvement! The event will feature two competitions for all ability levels of running or walking in either the Half Marathon or 8K Road Race. This one-day event will showcase a $1,000 prize purse for the top female finishers in the Durham Women’s Half Marathon.
