Preface: The numbers presented in the following are necessary to illustrate the essence of this story. That is their sole purpose and intent. If for ONE SECOND you think they are used for any other reason, you would be dead wrong. My mileage pales in comparison to many, many, MANY runners I have come to know and admire. I always think back to when I first started running and read about a woman who ran 14,000 miles in a single year. From that perspective anything I’ve ever accomplished is merely a drop in the ocean. But should I ever run 14,000 miles in a single year, trust me: You’ll hear about it. But for now, I’m going with this.

Brigham had won the event last year.

IMG_0980_edited4.jpg Running is often considered a solitary sport – but it’s really not.

Sure, it’s nice to grab an iPod and earbuds, run out the door and escape from the world.

Early in my running life, I listened to the entire collection of Harry Potter audio books while running along local greenways and through parks. Enthralled with the young wizard’s adventures, I’d start running with Harry and would not want to stop.

The Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon will continue to rock Savannah streets through 2018, officials announced.

Josh Furlow, president of the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon series, said the 2016 Savannah race, which will take place Nov. 5, continues to take center stage after a number of communication and weather-related issues last year, including a shortened course and deaths.

princess16.JPGLAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — If soccer had any chance of staying near and dear to Shannon Crawford’s heart, those hopes likely disappeared in a cloud of pixie dust at the Disney Princess Half Marathon presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

An avid soccer player since her childhood days in suburban New York City, the University of Virginia senior recently took up distance running and, in just her third 13.1-mile race ever, she won the popular Disney Princess Half Marathon title Feb. 21 at Walt Disney World Resort.

Winning One for Grandpa at Otter Creek

When my grandfather passed away in August, the first thing I did was go for a trail run. He was an outdoorsy guy who loved to bike and hike (and geocache), and on that run I knew I'd be back at Otter Creek. This event is about 13 years old, and would be older if they hadn't literally closed the park for a couple of years.

It's a great race put on by Headfirst Performance, a company owned by two trail-loving ultra runners. (Related: I wrote about co-owner Cynthia Heady's attempt at the Ultra Running Grand Slam in an earlier.)
