By Cedric Jaggers
Do you run a lot of races? If you do it is easy to slip into some bad habits, or simply forget about your good habits. I’ve run 784 races beginning with the Turkey Day 5K in Charleston on November 28, 1978. I’ve run the Cooper River Bridge Run10K 35 times; the Charlie Post Classic 15K or 5K dozens of times, plus too many other races to mention. So I’ve probably made most of the mistakes we’ll talk about here. One thing I have learned is that we all learn best by doing. So you may not agree that some of the things listed here are mistakes, but you probably will after you have run over 700 races and learned the hard way.

Rodgers 1975 XC-thumb-500x666-11385.jpgThere was a time when the IAAF World Cross Country Championships truly resonated with the hardcore running world. Billed as the toughest annual race to win outside of the Olympic distances, runners from all over the world gathered to compete on equal footing. Whether one was a miler, 5K, 10K, 1/2 Marathon or Marathon specialist, this annual race was distance nirvana for both the participants and the fans.
