Mark Chepses of Kenya won the Little Rock Marathon for the fourth-consecutive year on Sunday, while hometown favorite Leah Thorvilson broke the tape for the fifth time.

“It was very cold,” said Chepses, who won in 2:25:45.

“I’m so happy to be done,” said Thorvilson, delighted with a winning time of 2:42:41, her second-fastest here. “These are the ickiest conditions I’ve ever raced in.”

The top five finishers of the Feb. 23 Sentara Colonial Half Marathon at Williamsburg, VA, were Ayele Kassaye of Ethiopia, overall winner in 1:10:36, followed by Richard Morris of Burkeville, VA, in 1:11:03. Then, Baisa Moleta of Ethiopia(1:13:35), Adam Otstot of Williamsburg (1:13:43), and Gregory Mariano of Alexandria (1:14:26).

gasparilla group.jpg Manatee (FL) High School Cross Country and Track Coach Rae Ann Darling Reed was the women's masters winner at the Gasparilla Distance Classic 8K in Tampa on Sunday, Feb. 23. She was the eighth overall female in 34:50. This is just four weeks after Darling Reed ran 3:26:26 to win masters at the inaugural Celebration Marathon.

The 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason charity program has raised a record $2,600,000 to benefit 60 local charities. With more than 16,000 donations, this year marks the fourth in a row that fundraising has surpassed the $2 million plateau.

Gabriele Grunewald has been reinstated as the 2014 USA indoor women’s 3,000-meter champion and named to Team USA for the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships, USATF CEO Max Siegel announced Monday. Grunewald will be joined by Shannon Rowbury in the women’s 3,000m at World Indoors, March 7-9 in Sopot, Poland.

ALBUQUERQUE -- Bernard Lagat ran the fastest time by an American in meet history and took home the men’s 3000m title in a time of 7:46.01 to highlight day two of the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.

Lagat (Tuscon, Ariz.) stayed in the middle of the pack til the 2800 meter mark when he and Galen Rupp (Portland, Ore.) took off ahead of the fray. Lagat sat patiently in sixth before turning on his kick with 120 meters to go to finish first ahead of Rupp who crossed the line 7:48.19.

In recent months, the RRCA has named several new and enthusiastic individuals to the position of State Representative. The reps are in many ways the personal face of the organization, serving as ambassadors in each state and providing a physical presence while promoting RRCA programs and services to clubs and events in their home states.
