Templeton, Alcorta win Footlocker South CC

Templeton_Aaron_JPg.jpg Aaron Templeton of Knoxville, TN, and Caroline Alcorta of Springfield, Va., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) South Regional 5K at Charlotte, NC, Saturday, Nov. 30.

Templeton, a senior at Hardin Valley Academy, won the Boys South Regional in 14:36. Benjamin Huffman of Waxhaw, N.C., placed second in 14:44, and Ian Milder of Winston Salem, N.C., finished third in 14:49. Templeton is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist.

As part of a Cultural Exchange Program with the Urayasu Runners Club, the Japanese runners will be in Orlando Dec. 4-9 and will participate in the Orlando Half Marathon and 5K on Dec. 7.

The Japanese guests will be taken sightseeing around Orlando, including a day at Disney Epcot, and be honored guests at the Orlando Running Club's Christmas party, plus other activities.

Two members of the Orlando Running Club will be chosen to travel to Urayasu in February to participate in the Tokyo Bay Urayasu City 8K and be guests at the Urayasu club's annual banquet.

Pife, Miller win Subaru Half Marathon

Stephen Pifer of Jacksonville, FL, was the overall winner of the Subaru Half Marathon held Nov. 28 in Jacksonville, finishing in 1:06:53. Jeremy Criscione of Gainesville was second in 1:07:11, followed by Matt Hensley of Jacksonville in 1:07:12.

Women's winner was Shannon Miller of Suwanee, GA, in 1:18:12, followed by Svenja Meye of Jacksonville in 1:19:48 and Lyubov Denisova of Gainesville in 1:20:13.

ATLANTA – Approximately 11,000 runners and walkers earned their turkey this Thanksgiving at the 2013 Atlanta Half Marathon events on Thursday, November 28. In addition to the Atlanta Half Marathon, the event featured the Thanksgiving Day 5K, the Mashed Potato Mile for children ages 7 to 12 and the Gravy Gallop for kids ages 6 and under.

Hoyes, Schaefer win White River Marathon

Matt Hoyes of Bardstown, KY, and Patricia Schaefer of Springfield, Illinois were winners of the White River Marathon at Cotter, Arkansas on Nov. 23. Moyes was overall winner in 2:39:34.1. Schaefer won the women’s race in 3:12:59.8.

The next four overall finishers were Mike Wendel of Chatham, Illinois in 2:54:15.2; Brad Atkins of Blacksburg, VA, in 3:01:52.4; Joe Bowman of Dunwoody, GA, in 3:02:50; and Tyler Wolf of Overland Park, Kansas in 3:08:55.3.

Burt Rodriguez won the Charlotte Thunder Road Marathon in 2:33:37, followed by Jamey Yon in 2:34:51 and Scott Williams in 2:36:50. Alice Rogers won the women's race in 2:56:12, followed by Claire Naisby in 3:08:09 and Bonnie Ritchotte in 3:14:59.

Lance McDaniel won the half marathon in 1:15:01, followed by Chase Eckard in 1:15:36 and David Sanctis in 1:16:26. Katie Strohschein was female winner in 1:29:28 with Kathy Rink second in 1:29:55. Gisele Tlusty was third in 1:30:10.

As the popularity of running continues to grow, so does the number of events held each year around the country. This is a good thing for the sport; however, as with all growth industries, there are inevitably going to be a few bad apples that can spoil a barrel, the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) warns.

Molly Huddle has earned USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time in 2013 after breaking the women’s 12K world record Nov. 17 at the .US National Road Racing Championships in Alexandria, Va. As the event’s top female finisher, Huddle not only won the race, but her combined points total also earned her the USA Racing Circuit title.

– Punishing early paces led to blistering fast times, as a world best and an American record were set Sunday morning in historic Alexandria, Virginia at the .US National Road Racing Championships.

The .US National Road Racing Championships are the eleventh and final stop on the USA Running Circuit.
