NEW ORLEANS - (February, 13, 2010) - Kim Smith of New Zealand set a pending U.S. All-Comers record in the half marathon on Sunday, clocking 1 hour, 7 minutes, 36 seconds at the second Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Marathon & Half-Marathon benefiting the American Cancer Society. The 29-year-old ran away from the rest of the women's field in the opening mile and was never challenged on her way to setting a 19-second personal best and shattering her national record for the 13.1-mile distance.

"My goal was to run a little bit slower because my coach didn't want me to push it too hard," said Smith, who finished sixth overall. "But I felt good out there. I'm training for the Boston Marathon so I'm in pretty heavy training at the moment so I didn't think I would run this fast. I'm pretty happy after the heavy training week to run like that."

New Orleans, LA – A relationship spanning several decades and 700-plus road races has come to a close. Chuck George announced his resignation as Executive Race Director for the New Orleans Track Club (NOTC) on December 1.

During George’s tenure, NOTC grew to over two-thousand members, making it one of the ten largest running clubs in the nation. But he will probably be best remembered for directing one of the first sporting events in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, the 2006 Mardi Gras Marathon.

1photosmallLakeland.jpgThe Lakeland Runners Club, of Lakeland, FL, traces its roots back to 1974 when founder John Scimone collaborated with the Lakeland Recreation Department to put on the first Civic Center Runs. From those early beginnings, the club has grown to a membership of nearly 300 and is an integral part of the local running community.

Lakeland is fortunate to have Lake Hollingsworth as the centerpiece of our running scene. This 2.84 mile paved trail around the lake is filled with walkers and runners every day and is the gathering place for many of our club runs as well as many races throughout the year.
