The Florida Striders (http://FloridaStriders.com) have established a world record for the 100 x 5K relay. The 100 runners ran the relay in 37 hours, 12 minutes, 53.66 seconds from Dec. 10-12.
The record will be submitted to the Guiness Book of World Records and a race official said all requirements were met for the record-setting event, which included video taping the entire relay.
Brantly to moderate Olympian panel at pre-race pasta dinner set for Friday, February 4, 2011
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The State Farm Melbourne & Beaches Music Marathon Weekend has announced that its traditional pre-race pasta dinner will be held Friday, February 4, 2011 on the grounds of the historic Rossetter House in the Melbourne suburb of Eau Gallie.
16,500 runners and walkers participated in four races; $2.8 million raised for St. Jude
MEMPHIS, TENN. (December 4, 2010) – Peter Kemobi of Hebron, Ky. and Leah Thorvilson of Little Rock, Ark. were the top male and female finishers, respectively, in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon on Dec. 4. Kemboi, 36, finished the 26.2 mile course with a time of 2:26:29 while Thorvilson finished in 2:40:20. Proceeds from all races benefited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers.
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Daniel Ellis of Birmingham, AL, won the 34th annual Rocket City Marathon on Dec. 11. The 25-year-old took the lead around the 19-mile mark and went on to finish in a time of 2:24:37. Kameron Ulmer of Boise, ID, made a late surge to finish a close second in 2:24:50. Third-place went to Scott Wietecha of Goodlettesville, TN, in 2:27:08. Last year's champion, David Riddle of Cincinnati, OH, was fourth, running 2:28:14.
Cuffe captures girls crown in San Diego

SAN DIEGO - (December 11, 2010) - Aisling Cuffe of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. and Lukas Verzbicas of Orland Hills, Ill. won the 2010 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals (FLCCC) at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego on Saturday. At the 32nd edition, the runners competed on the 5K course in perfect racing conditions, under beautiful sunny skies with a temperature of 60 degrees.
In the girls' race, Cuffe, a three-time FLCCC National Finalist and senior at Cornwall Central High School, dominated from the start and powered through the field.
The list of activities enhanced by mountain moonlight grew by one this week with the long anticipated return of a favorite Maggie Valley endurance event.
Announced on Dec. 6 by race organizer Greg Duff of Glory Hound Events, the Mission Health System Maggie Valley Moonlight Race will return in 2011 and once again entice runners from near and far to lace up their sneakers in the dark.
