More South Carolina records
Six New South Carolina Running Records have been set, USATF state long-distance records keeper Bill Marable announced.
One new record set at the North Myrtle Beach Winter 15K on January 20, 2018:
16-17 female, 1:07:22, Wilson Jenerette 16, North Myrtle Beach.
One new record set at the Charlie Post Classic 15K at Sullivan’s Island on January 27, 2018:

Medal Design Contest Set
MYRTLE BEACH, SC — The Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon is having a contest to design the race medal.
Requirements:
— Surfboard shape.
— Must incorporate a bottle opener.
— Maximum of 3 colors (base metal can be silver or gold and can be used as a possible 4th color in the design)
— Digital designs highly preferred, but hand drawn designs will also be accepted.

Derby Festival Unveils 2018 Race Medal
LOUISVILLE, KY – Runners participating in this year’s Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon and Marathon Presented by Humana will receive a historic finisher’s medal to take home with them. It’s the first time the design of the medal has featured Churchill Downs’ iconic Twin Spires, alongside the Festival’s Pegasus emblem. This year’s race is set for Saturday, April 28, and is the largest annual day of road racing in Kentucky.

Famiglietti Big Hit at 5K
DENVER, NC — Two-time Olympian Anthony Famiglietti was a big hit at the Feb. 17 Valentine’s 5K & Couples Race, winning the 5K, then went back to encourage runners in the last mile. Female winner was Olivia Humphrey in 21:48.
Unseasonably warm weather brought out families to enjoy the day. There were lots of door prizes and Olympic valentine tee shirts.

Reimink, Merrill Win Marathon
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Timothy Reimink and Brenna Merrill were winners of the Publix Fort Lauderdale Marathon on Feb. 18. Reimink finished in 2:45:17 to finish first overall. Merrill’s first female winning time was 3:08:48.

Kopecky, Hayden Victorious at Mississippi River Marathon
LAKE VILLAGE, AR — Benjamin Kopecky ran a strong 2:34:33.56 race in winning the Mississippi River Marathon on Feb. 10. Matt Weickert was second in 2:40:24.07 and Craig Depperschmidt third in 2:47:28.69.
Female winner Brittany Hayden finished in 3:30:11.85, followed closely by Racheal Pierce in 3:30:23.25 and Rosemarie Dickinson in 3:30:40.19.

Suss, Helmer Win HH Marathon
HILTON HEAD, SC — Jake Suss of Glendale, AZ, and Jennifer Helmer of Charleston, SC, were winners of the Feb. 10 Hilton Head Marathon. Suss finished in 2:38:41 and Helmer in 3:19:06.

Hedgespeth Wins Marathon
MELBOURNE, FL — Local runners were first and second. Steve Hedgespeth won the Publix Florida Marathon on Sunday, Feb. 11, in 2:58:14. Brian Lail was second in 3:02:47. Andrew Rastrick, of London, was third in 3:03:21.
Violetta Yazlovskaya of Titusville was the female champion in 3:11:46. Second went to Taryn Fleet of Oviedo in 3:32:19. Stella Balzli of New Castle was third in 3:32:38.

IRONMAN Athletes Choice Awards Announced for 2017

Space Coast Marathon to Honor Space Program
COCOA, FL — The 47th running of the Space Coast Marathon and Half Marathon will be held Nov. 25 in the shadow of the Kennedy Space Center.
The event features Florida’s oldest marathon and will be the first year of the new Big Bang Series - The Next Generation.
