JOHNSON CITY, TN — David McDaniel of Hampton, TN, was the first finisher at the June 24 Run the Tweetsie Half Marathon trail race in 1:21:31.19. Harrison Barrett of Johnson City was second in 1:26:53.09, followed by David Scott of Greeneville in 1:29:40.85.

GREENSBORO, North Carolina – The youngest Rio Olympian Sydney McLaughlin (Dunellen, New Jersey) completed her high school track career with her fourth consecutive 400m hurdles title at the New Balance Nationals Outdoors in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Sunday. McLaughlin finished in 54.22, besting her previous meet record of 54.46.

WICHITA, Kan. - A total of 1,900,000 runners finished a half marathon in the U.S. in 2016, down from the record high of just over two million finishers in 2014 and slightly down from the 1,986,600 total in 2015. While participation dropped, there were a record 2,800 U.S. half marathon events in 2016, up from 2,700 in 2015.

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Frezer Legesse (4:16.97) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Jessica Kamilos of Fayetteville were overall winners of the Go! Mile on Saturday, June 17.

A series of races were held and final results based on each runnere’s time in the various races. The event was the RRCA state championship and was produced by the Go! Running Store.

NEW ORLEANS — Mike Holloway of Florida and Petros Kyprianou of Georgia have been named National Coaches of the Year in track and field by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Named national assistant coaches of the year were Tim Hall of Tennessee and Curtis Taylor of Oregon.

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Enoc Nadler led a fast threesome to the finish line Saturday, June 10, in the elite division of the Run for the Pies 5K. Nadler, 31, finished in 14:39, followed by Raymond McCormack, 24, in 14:47 and Eduardo Garcia, 24, in 14:55.

Female winner was Stephanie Pezzullo, 35, in 17:29. Second went to Svenja Meyer, 27, in 17:33, while Julie Steakhouse was third in 17:47.

ATLANTA — Richard Kimani of Birmingham, AL, won the Hotlanta Half Marathon on Sunday, June 11. The 28-year- old raced to the finish in 1:09:54. William DeMars, 36, of Atlanta, was runner-up in 1:21:27, followed by fellow Atlanta runner Joe Damron, 29, in 1:21:35.
