MEMPHIS, TN — Pias Nyanteika, 30, of Louisville, KY, won the Great American River Run Half Marathon May 28 in 1:07:23.1. Second was Japhet Kipkoech, 25, of Louisville in 1:09:44.6, while Joseph Chebet, 24, of Itta Bena, MS, was third in 1:13:16.5.

Newcomb, High win Yorktown Freedom Run

YORKTOWN, VA — J. T. Newcomb, 28, of Durham, NC, was first overall on Memorial Day at the Yorktown Freedom Run 8K, finishing in 28:10. Michael Stohler, 37, of Newport News, was second in 29:55. John Piggott, 51, of Williamsburg was third overall but was named first master in that prize money was greater. Fourth was Daniel Shean, 33, of Virginia Beach in 30:34, who was named third overall for prize money.

GREENSBORO, NC — N.C. A&T State University will be hosting a number of track meets in 2016 in which volunteers will be needed.

"This is a great way for students to satisfy their service hours. It is also a great way to see the meet up close and personal and keep the price of admission in your pocket,” an official said.

Mills River Elementary School has won $1,000 in fitness equipment from Western North Carolina SUBWAY sandwich shop in the Fit for Life Challenge.

SUBWAY partnered with USA Track and Field in the contest in which the school held a RunJumpThrow event and tracked healthy eating and physical activity in October.

They have decided to replace the traditional t-shirt giveaway to Without Limits 26.2 and 13.1 Lounge pants. These lounge pants were introduced by Without Limits at the 2013 PPD Beach2Battleship Triathlon.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Two nighttime 5K events will be held July 23, the Beat the Heat 5K at 7 pm and the North Carolina USATF 5K Championship Race at 8 pm.

The new format will make the championship a spectator event as runners in the first race will be on hand to cheer the championship runners.
