CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Philip Weber, 55, of Charlottesville, known as “the running man,” was struck by a vehicle Dec. 29 at about 7 a.m. while running along Ivy Lane. He died at the scene.
Weber had reportedly run 125,000 miles, training about 5,000 miles per year. He lived alone but was well known in the community and considered passersby as his friends.
More than 21,000 runners and walkers participated in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend on December 5, raising more than $8.2 million. It is the largest single one-day fundraiser of the year for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Events included a marathon, marathon relay, half marathon, 5K and family fun run.
On Sunday morning, Jan. 3, The New Orleans Track Club will host the 109th Anniversary Jackson Day Race, a road race open to participants of all running and walking skill levels. The event will take place at 8:30 a.m. starting on Marconi Drive at Robert E. Lee Blvd and finishing at Jackson Square in the French Quarter.
