half_marathon_300.jpg BOONE, NC — The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Institute for Health and Human Services (IHHS) in the Appalachian State University Beaver College of Health Sciences announces the High Country Half Marathon will be held on Aug. 29 at 7:30 a.m. This is the second race in the High Country Triple Crown series and all proceeds benefit Girls on the Run of the High Country, a self-confidence building program for girls in the 3rd-8th grade. The presenting sponsor for The High Country Half Marathon is Mast General Store.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 27, 2015) – Little Rock Marathon race officials announced that registration will open at 10 a.m. CST on Aug. 17 for its 2016 event to be held March 5-6, 2016. The Little Rock Marathon Weekend is presented by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette and benefits Little Rock Parks & Recreation.

Cross-Country Series Set for Asheville

A series of seven cross-country races will be held at Asheville, NC beginning July 30. Runners must compete in at least five of the races to be eligible for prizes.

The series, now in its seventh year, is being held by Foot RX through The Run 828 Foundation. Series participants will receive shirts, awards and an End of Series party. Register for the entire series or one race at a time.

INDIANAPOLIS – Forty youth track and field clubs will receive grants totaling $50,000 as part of the Mark Springer Travel Grant program, USATF announced.

Named after the former USATF Director of Grassroots Programs & Planning and originator of the program, the Mark Springer Youth Travel Grant Program offers travel assistance grants to eligible USATF youth clubs across the country. Since 2000, the grants have helped clubs offset expenses related to travel to USATF National Championships.

rp_primary_coach_Price2_15c.jpg CLEVELAND, TN — Caleb Morgan, Lee University's head cross country and track and field coach, has recruited a veteran runner to become a key assistant for his rapidly expanding track programs.

Casey Price will give up his cross country and track coaching duties at Cleveland High School and join Morgan's staff at Lee. Price, who ran track at UT-Chattanooga, will continue to hold his teacher's position at Cleveland Middle School.

Albert_Meyer_5_Olympia_1896_(cropped).jpg Spyridon Louis was winner of the marathon in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens, Greece. The Greek water-carrier finished in 2:58:50.

A victory lap video of Louis has been discovered in a basement at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland along with photos of those 1896 games plus thousands of hours of video, photos and documents from other moments in Olympic history.

ATLANTA — Participants of the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run Walk 2015 (KPCRW) will have an opportunity to start gearing up and preparing for the annual event. KPCRW participants are encouraged to take advantage of the fitness boot camp offered instructed by Tammie Leady on most Saturdays throughout August and September. Tammie Leady will encourage, motivate and prepare participants for the 5K challenge, and welcomes all fitness levels, from experienced to beginning level exercisers.

Hero 5K Honors Major Culver

El Dorado, Ark — Honoring those who fought and died for their country, the SouthArk Outdoor Expo will have the Major Ronald Wayne Culver Hero 5K on Sept. 12. Culver died in Iraq on May 24, 2010. Organizers of the SouthArk Outdoor Expo will also continue to recognize first responders and the many people who lost their lives on 9.11.
