The Tidewater Striders, one of the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit running clubs, gives back in many ways to our community. One way is awarding collegiate scholarships to deserving college or university students based on academic and athletic achievement, community service and club involvement. Approximately 6 scholarships are awarded each year for between $2,000 - $3,000 each. Two of these scholarships – the two at the $3,000 level -- bear the names of Strider members who had a significant impact on our running club but who sadly are no longer alive: Tom Bashara and Pamela Edwards.

Roughly 50% of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience MS-related pain. The pain is thought to arise from damage and inflammation to the central nervous system (CNS), leading to abnormal processing and/or transmission of pain-related messages from the body to the CNS. The pain can manifest in a variety of forms, such as appearing with no provocation or from a simple touch and causing hot, painful prickling sensations or muscle spasms. No matter the manifestation, MS-related pain reduces quality of life and represents an important need for people living with MS.
