Keep Your Eye on the Prize
By Richard Ferguson
Many of you are planning a big race this spring. Maybe you will be going to Boston for the marathon, running the Cooper River 10K, or maybe you have circled a local race on the calendar to point toward. The race you have identified is THE race you want to perform your best in this spring. You are motivated to train and really excited about getting ready for and competing in your targeted race. However, there will be many distractions during the time you training for the race and at the race itself.

Peachtree, Rock n Roll, and Atlanta Marathon
By Jim Dugger
Like a lot of folks right now, I’m just starting to dig myself out of a snow bank and access the damage. Too many days locked inside and the wife is starting to run out of indoor fix’em up projects for me. I hate snow and ice no matter how pretty it is when it comes down. Let’s think about warmer weather and some serious sweating.

Running Fitness
By Ellen Jaffe Jones
Runners are an interesting lot. For starters, as we get older, we are the only segment of the population, as far as I know, who are really eager to get older.
No matter where we run, awards will be given in our age group. When you first enter an age group, generally you are faster than your older counterparts in the same age group. As a runner reaches 58 or 59, for example, the 55-year-olds entering that same age group generally are going to be faster. Not always, but usually this is so.

Tuscaloosa Track Club Holds Award Banquet
The Tuscaloosa Track Club recently held its Grand Prix Award Banquet at Evangeline’s Restaurant. Throughout the evening, many TTC members were recognized for their running achievements throughout last year. TTC triathletes who participated in the USAT Age-Group National Championship this past September were named. These included Eric Wilson, Michael Moore, Cathy Pagani, Leigh Ann Hobson, Carol Moore-Smith, and Richard Snow. Many of these athletes have earned a spot with the Team USA and will travel to Beijing to participate in the ITU Sprint World Championship.

Beating Burnout
By Richard Ferguson
As an avid runner, Susan is a longtime member of the local running club. For the past five years she has been one of the most active members, participating in almost every club race or activity. Susan hasn’t missed a day of training for years and she races whenever the opportunity presents itself. If there is a race nearby and she doesn’t participate, she feels guilty.

Running Resolutions for 2011
By Pete Rea/ZAP Fitness
By nature I am not a fan of resolutions. I have watched resolutions, even amongst the most diligent and resolute, get broken more frequently than the national deficit ceiling. Having said that, we at ZAP have decided this year to come up with a series of resolutions we are bound and determined to follow to the letter. At the suggestion of one of our athletes, we have decided to share these resolutions with our friends in Running Journal country.
